How to Earn Passive Income as a Writer

~ The articles on this blog may contain affiliate links. If you click and buy from it, I will earn a small commission from that purchase. ~

Not just because you already land a writing gig means that you have to be content with that. As a freelancer, you can also earn a passive income as a writer. The best thing about it is that you can make money even if you're working on other projects. But you have to have time to start and maintain it if you want to earn while you're sleeping.

1. Start a Blog

Every writer should have a blog. Why? Because you can use it as your online portfolio and monetize your content! That way, you can earn extra from it while it's not that popular, and you can also direct your clients if they want to see your writing samples.

Once you have a good number of high-quality articles on your blog, you can apply with Google Adsense or other online advertising companies. That way, they can run ads on your website and earn money from them. As long as you have decent site traffic, that should be good.

You can also join affiliate networks so that you can become an affiliate marketer using your blog. Just insert some of the links from them so that you can earn commissions when somebody buys from your link. It can be an excellent way to earn extra from blogging.

2. Self-Publishing

If you can write a decent word count, you can create an ebook. You don't have to write non-fiction all the time. You can write fictional stories or a novel. It's an excellent way to spend your free time than not doing anything productive.

You can self-publish in Amazon KDP, or you can also try to go for PayHip. They are both self-publishing companies that will help you publish your book, and they can also have it listed on different ebook websites.

Just be creative so that you can become a published author and not just a freelance writer. You can earn royalties from your books as long as there are people who are buying them. That will be an excellent passive income for you, and you might become a bestselling author!

3. Create A Course

Writing can be a flexible skill, and you don't just have to write articles or stories all the time. If you can teach by writing a course, then go ahead and create one or more. Many successful writers have completed their course, and they are earning serious money from it.

If you have the skill to teach something by writing, don't waste your abilities and talent. Create your course so that other people can also learn what you know. It will also help other people to learn another skill for their careers. Plus, you can earn money out of it over and over again.

You can sell your course from Udemy or other websites that are selling online classes. You don't have to work on it over and over again since one study can earn multiple times even if you're sleeping. That's going to be a great way to make and save it for your retirement.

4. Repurpose Rejected Articles

As a writer, it's normal to have some of your articles get rejected from time to time. If that happens, don't feel discouraged. Sometimes client's just don't like your writing style. Maybe they have other expectations in mind.

When it happens, make sure to save your work and repurpose it. You can add it to your blog if you want. But if you have a niche blog, it can be hard to place it there and look like a sore thumb. Forget adding it to your blog then.

What can you do about it? Join Vocal Media or other writing websites that are doing profit sharing. You can sign up and create your profile and start adding your rejected articles from there.

I'm doing that, and I have two rejected articles that earn a lot of reads that made me earn money from that platform as well. It's the best way for you to avoid wasting your items just because a client doesn't like it.

Final Thoughts

Earning a passive income is not as hard as it seems. If you're a writer like me, you can monetize your work in many different ways. All you have to do is be creative and use your researching skills to find where you can earn from your writing skills.
