Our world is changing and aside from the global pandemic, we all have to worry about other threats such as typhoons, martial law, and more. Those will be the times that we need to prepare for since they can happen at any time.

Although everyone should be prepared for the SHTF moments, I'm writing this for my fellow freelance writers out there. If you're like me, I don't usually go out of the house ever since the pandemic happened. But people have different ways of living through these moments.

1. Be Prepared

Preparing for these unfortunate events is a must. You don't want to get off guard when you can no longer do anything about it. Being prepared is one of the best things that you can do when disasters aren't happening yet.

  • Food Supplies

Having a food supply is a must to ensure that you can eat when SHTF happens. You need to store clean drinking water. Better yet, get a water filtration device. It will save you from getting dehydrated during these times.

Stock up your food supplies while you still can. Adding a few cans of canned food will save you from starvation. Find food that you can store and not easily expire. Then you can build your supplies slowly.

  • Vegetable Garden

A vegetable garden can save you from just eating canned goods forever when SHTF happens. It's also a good idea to start learning how to grow your veggies now. Not only does it prepare you for trying times but it's cheaper than buying organic produce.

  • Practice Animal Husbandry

It's also best if you try to practice animal husbandry. There's no need to set up poultry right away. Just practicing with a few chickens, for example, will let you know if you can take care of your livestock. It's also a good way to have them as early as now.

  • Exercise

It's hard to stick to your exercise routine, especially your work from home. However, we need to do this to prepare for the worst. It's not going to be easy to survive if you get sick. It will also help if you can run if needed without having a heart attack.

2. Stay Updated

Being updated on what's going on will help you to gauge the situation. It doesn't have to be the zombie apocalypse but dealing with the natural phenomenon is a must. If there's a typhoon that is about to come, it's best to stay home and fully protect it against strong winds.

If you need to evacuate, go for it! Just make sure that you have a bag full of everything that you need. Evacuation centers may not have food at the onset of the disaster. It's best if you bring some food and water with you to last you and your family until there's food available.

3. Don't Panic

Panicking will not help you in any way so try to avoid it. That's the reason why we have to prepare ahead so that we know that we have what we need. Try to practice breathing techniques that will help you relax in any situation at hand. It will help you to go into safety sooner than if you panic first.

4. Act Fast

To do this, you will need to think fast as well. If you have to evacuate, do it before it's too late. Acting slowly will endanger your life as well as your family. When you need to bug out of your home, do it right away! Time is of the essence in different scenarios and it's best to act fast but be sure to always be careful.

5. Don't Forget the First Aid Kit

Stuffing your first aid kit is an excellent way to make sure that you can use it in case you or the people around you get hurt. It's also a must that you have a stock of prescription medicine if you need those. You'll never know what can happen at any time. Make sure to have bandages, painkillers disinfectants, and more.

Final Thoughts

There are more ways to survive in case the SHTF moment happens. It's better to be prepared and ready than sorry. Most people I know are masters of stocking food supplies. It's because they don't usually go out of the house. This is a great practice since we can no longer predict what else might happen.
